MURALS x CULTURE

May 23 in Columbus

NOON to 10PM

Alley Islands is a community street festival organized by Blockfort Gallery and Studios. Located in the Discovery District of Downtown Columbus, the festival seeks to welcome people of all ages for a day of music, food, art and fun. This year, four stages, surrounded by a multitude of new and permanent murals, with over 20 performers, ranging from live music, to dance, comedy, and storytelling span the day. Artists, crafters, and small business artisans line the streets, capped by food trucks and local breweries. Inside the neighborhood buildings, guests are welcome to visit gallery spaces, artist studios, fashion labs, classrooms, event spaces and a full service restaurant. The whole day is sprinkled with street performers, magicians, circus performances, and visual experiences.

Presented in partnership with the Discovery District Civic Association.

Alley Islands takes place just steps away from Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus College of Art & Design, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Roosevelt Coffee, Brioso Coffee, Charmy’s Market and several other cultural and commercial establishments. Alley Islands aims to bring new energy and attention to the Discovery District neighborhood.

LAFAYETTE MURAL
ALLEY PROJECT

Alley Islands has grown each year over the past 8 years. The few scattered murals that started in the alley have now grown into a full blown district effort. The core spine of concentrated murals exists along Lafayette Alley, but spreads out over several blocks.

The Lafayette Mural Alley Project is a plan to create murals on all of the buildings between Grant and 4th St. along Lafayette Alley. This plan is being managed by Blockfort in partnership with building owners.

Over 40 permanent murals, along with the rotating murals that happen at Alley Islands, will be created as part of the project. The works featured are from both local artists and artists from cities around the country.
